Reopening this weekend

The Maryland State House (100 State Circle, Annapolis) is reopening to the public on Saturday, May 21. The Maryland State House is the oldest state capitol in continuous legislative use and is the only state house ever to have served as the nation’s capitol. Don’t miss the statues of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman, which were unveiled last February. Opening hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The State House is free to enter, but a government-issued ID is required is enter the building.

Reopened museums

The Annapolis Maritime Museum (723 Second Street, Annapolis) educates youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. The museum is open by timed-ticket entry only. Tickets will be available at the top of the hour: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Capacity restrictions apply. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children (3-12), military, and seniors (65+), and free for members and children under 3.

The Hammond-Harwood House (19 Maryland Avenue, Annapolis) is a museum of 18th century architecture and art standing as a testament to the importance of preservation to the residents of Annapolis, and America. It is open for tours by reservation. Museum hours of operation are noon to 5:00 p.m (last tour at 4:00 p.m). The museum is closed Tuesdays. Admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children (6 – 18), $10 for seniors (65+), AAA & students, and free for members or children under 6.

Or continue your journey to southern Anne Arundel County. The Galesville Heritage Museum (988 Main Street, Galesville) tells the history of the waterside village of Galesville, featuring a fascinating collection of artifacts, photos and even boats. The Galesville Heritage Museum is open by appointment and on Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Call 410-867-9499 to make an appointment.

Reopened gardens

The grounds at Historic London Town and Gardens (839 Londontown Road, Edgewater) are open to the public Wednesday though Sunday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Enjoy 10 acres of woodland and ornamental gardens. 30-minute outdoor walking tours in the Historic Area are also available at 11am and 2:30pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62 & up), $5 for youth (7-17), $3 for children (4-6), and free for members and children 3 and under.

The Historic Annapolis William Paca Gardens (86 Prince George Street, Annapolis) is a two-acre oasis of natural beauty in the bustling center of Annapolis’ Historic District returned to its original historic splendor. The gardens are open to visitors Thursday – Sunday: 10 am – 2:30 pm (last entry at 2 pm). Guided tours are offered daily on the half hour. Self-guided admission fees are $5 for General Admission (3 and up), or free for children and Historic Annapolis members. Guided tour admission fees are $12 for general admission, $5 for children (3-17), or free for children under 3 or Historic Annapolis members.
