What’s Open in Four Rivers This Weekend
Maryland has officially moved into Stage Two of COVID-19 Recovery, and so has Anne Arundel County! Our heritage sites are beginning to open to the public as well. Here’s what’s open this weekend in the Four Rivers Heritage Area.
Historic Annapolis announced that the William Paca Garden, will be open to the public as of Friday, June 12 at 10:00 am. Hours for visiting will be Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am – 2 pm. The William Paca Garden is a two-acre “oasis” of natural beauty in the bustling center of Annapolis’ Historic District. Although many colonial Annapolitans had gardens, only Paca’s has been restored to reflect its original splendor and opened to the public. Guests may choose from two admission options: garden entry for a self-guided garden stroll (map and route provided), or garden entry with a docent-led tour. The gardens, grounds, limited bathrooms, and reconstructed colonial buildings, including the Lord Mayor’s Tenement and the Carpenter Shop, are now open at Historic London Town and Gardens. Reconstructed on its archaeological footprint, the Lord Mayor’s Tenement would have been rented to London Town’s lower-class workers. In the Carpenter’s Shop, you can discover the different tools that carpenters would have used and what they might have created. Visit anytime Wednesday – Sunday, 10:00am – 4:30pm. Check in at the Visitor Center. Only one person per group will be allowed to come in to pay. Wearing a mask is required. There will be signs to safely direct you in and through the building. As a reminder, Annapolis Maritime Museum’s Park Campus, a renovated, 12-acre waterfront park, remains open to the public. Walking trails, a kayak/canoe launch, and an amphitheater are located on site.
The grounds and Rain Garden of the Captain Avery Museum in Shady Side in South County are also open to social-distancing visitors. The museum is a place for enjoying the culture of the Chesapeake Bay and sharing stories, ideas, knowledge, and history about the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.
