Volunteer Opportunities with Our Heritage Partners

Support local nonprofits

Sites are reopening and organizations are returning to in-person activities, but they need your support and assistance to help them welcome back the public.

Want to get involved? Here are a few volunteer opportunities to consider, whether your interest is nature, archaeology, or education.

Scenic Rivers Land Trust is launching a New Invasive Species Control Program at Bacon Ridge Natural Area (Hawkins Road Trailhead, Crownsville). Volunteers are invited to help on Thursday mornings throughout the summer to work on designated trail sections to remove specified invasive plant species. The work will continue each Thursday throughout the summer, ending in late August/early September.

Anne Arundel Archaeology Lab (839 Londontown Road, Edgewater) is located on the grounds of Historic London Town and Gardens and open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The lab is accepting interested volunteers to help process artifacts, including washing, labeling, sorting, and cataloging. No experience is needed.

Annapolis Maritime Museum (723 Second St, Annapolis) has recently reopened to the public, and they’re looking forward to providing tours of their newest permanent exhibit Our Changing Waterfront. This interactive exhibit focuses on three thematic sections: Bay Health, Oyster Economy and Annapolis Waters. They’re looking for Museum Docents/Tour Guides, outgoing and dedicated individuals to guide and inspire visitors throughout the renovated exhibits at the Museum Campus. Operating hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All training and materials are provided. A regular commitment is preferred.

Hammond-Harwood House (19 Maryland Avenue, Annapolis) will host their Secret Garden Tour Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6. The 2021 tour features private gardens in the Historic District, including Murray Hill, the area between West Street and Spa Creek, which holds a beautiful collection of homes built in various periods and architectural styles. They need special event volunteers to help make the weekend a success.

Thank you for volunteering to be an important part of our local heritage community!
