Learn Online With Our Library

Woman working on her laptop computerAs you probably know, the Anne Arundel County Library offers more than books. The library also hosts a wide variety of free online learning resources for adults. If you’ve been thinking of using this time to brush up on a skill or develop a new one, here are some ways to make that happen.

Lynda.com is an online education service that can help you learn technology, creative, and business skills. Library cardholders have access to over 129,000 free video tutorials on topics like tech, photography, social media and more. Some courses we think might be of interest to our partners include Social Media for Nonprofits, Creating a Video for a Nonprofit, and Leading with Innovation.

Anne Arundel County Library now provides access to Udemy. If you haven’t heard of this online educational platform, it offers over 4000 courses in the areas of business, tech, and personal development across 75+ different categories. Users can select the instructor and content that best addresses their skills need and learning preferences and filter search results on course features, level, duration, topic, and ratings. Check out their nonprofit-specific courses on grant writing, public relations, and financial management.  Note: You must be 18 years or older and have a Google or Microsoft account to sign in to Udemy.

The library also provides many articles and content through Gale OneFile. For our partners in the fine arts community, their Fine Arts title provides access to journal and magazine articles focused on areas such as drama, music, art history, and filmmaking. For Hospitality and Tourism you can find journal and magazine articles focused on the hospitality industry, tourism, and related fields. For the educators among our partners, the Leadership and Management section provides access to authoritative periodical content covering topics as diverse as 21st-century skills, learning disorders, standardized testing, homeschooling, and more. Updated daily, Leadership and Management is useful for researchers or any educator interested in professional development.

But if you still want those books, we have good news. Anne Arundel County library will soon offer Curbside Pickup. Starting June 8, curbside pickup will be available from 10 am – 4 pm, Monday-Saturday at all library locations, except the Busch Annapolis branch. All library locations will also open for limited indoor service starting June 15, except for the new Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library, which will open in July.  For our local historians, stay tuned for updates on access to the library Gold Star Collection, temporarily housed at Truxal Library at Anne Arundel Community College until the new Annapolis Regional Library is opened.

Happy learning with the library!
