“Founding Freedoms” Exhibit at the Maryland State House is a Must-See!

We are excited to share this news! “Founding Freedoms: The Essential American Documents” is a special exhibition open at the Maryland State House now through November 14.

Historic Annapolis, in partnership with philanthropist and Maryland native David M. Rubenstein and the Maryland State Archives, presents a special exhibition this fall at the Maryland State House. The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights have secured the liberties of Americans for almost 250 years. “Founding Freedoms: The Essential American Documents” is a rare opportunity to view important 18th- and 19th-century copies of these founding documents together with the fourth most important document in American history (which is permanently installed here): the original, hand-written speech given by George Washington at the Maryland State House in 1783, when he resigned his commission as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. “Founding Freedoms” tells the fascinating stories behind how these documents were created, made publicly known, and came to be cherished by Americans. Historic Annapolis will offer guided tours in conjunction with this exhibit; please visit annapolis.org/other/visit-founding-freedoms for more information. “Founding Freedoms” will be on display and accessible to the public at the Maryland State House from September 10 – November 14, 2021. The State House is open daily, 9 am to 5 pm, and entry is free of charge. Please note: the wearing of masks in public areas of the Maryland State House is mandatory.
