A look at the lives of four Maryland women-Frances Loockerman, Rosalie Calvert, Priscilla Bond, and Susan Gale.  Although all were married to wealthy landowners, each experienced tragic loss as well as enjoying their family's great progress. How did they reflect the values and interests of the evolving American culture?
