Virtual Event – Coffee with Ken: How Do We Define Community?

Here’s your chance to get the ear of the Director! Join MSAC’s Executive Director Ken Skrzesz and your fellow colleagues across the state on Tuesday mornings with your favorite coffee drink (or tea, if you’re like Ken!) for a topic-specific dialogue about the arts in Maryland. On March 23, join Ken for an invigorating conversation with artists, arts organization leaders, and MSAC staff about how we define community and how that definition is shifting or changing with our new reality. This event is free to attend.

Virtual Event – An Introduction to Ring Jousting, the Maryland State Sport

As we get ready to celebrate Maryland Day, let’s learn the history and how-to’s of the state sport of Ring Jousting. When did Jousting start in Maryland? Where can I watch Jousting today? What are the rules and who can joust? We will learn about the sport and answer your questions. Guests will include a former state champion. Join Anne Arundel County Public Library on Zoom for this virtual program. This event is free to attend.

Virtual Lecture – Dining in Colonial Maryland

Joyce White, food historian, will share her culinary expertise in this interactive program. Learn about the various foods that sustained Marylanders in the early days of settlement through to the 18th century with distinctions being made for class, wealth, race, and time-period. This program explores foods that were grown or harvested in Maryland and looks at exotic imports from around the world such as spices, cheeses, pasta, isinglass, and more. Cooking techniques, food preservation, and period dining styles are also explored.

Registration is required. Cost is $15 per household for General Admission or $10 per household for HA Members and Volunteers.

Virtual Event – Not Non-Traditional: Women in the Building Trades

According to the Department of Labor, construction is a “nontraditional” career field for women because they account for fewer than 25% of the registered workforce. The term “nontraditional”, however, implies that women did not and do not traditionally participate in construction work. This is inaccurate. This misconception erases women’s contribution to historic structures and disservices present-day women working in building trades. This webinar will delve into women’s roles in construction, historically and today. Register in advance. This event is free to attend.

Two Great Houses Outdoor Architecture Tour

  • Host Organization: Hammond-Harwood House

The Hammond-Harwood House Museum and Chase Home invite guests to an hour long tour that explores the two architectural treasures in downtown Annapolis. The tour will cover architectural details and the longstanding social history that connects these two great houses on Maryland Avenue.

Tour will be held outside, socially distanced with masks. Participation is limited. Registration is required. Cost of the tour is $20 per person.
