It’s a busy week of events, both virtual and in-person, so make sure to read on below about all our partners’ offerings. You’re sure to find happenings for all ages. And don’t forget check out our Event Calendar to see what’s coming in the future. Many of these programs have limited capacity and fill up quickly, and you won’t want to miss out!

Mr. Paca’s Garden: Summer Storytime, “Good Morning Yoga”

Join us on six Tuesday mornings this summer for storytime and fun activities in the William Paca Garden, a secret treasure in the Historic District of Annapolis. Each program is designed for little ones (4-7 years) with a book reading, song, craft/art project, and free time in the garden.

What are mornings like in your house?  “Good Morning Yoga” is a pose-by-pose children’s story that helps us start the day on the right foot! Come join us in Mr. Paca’s garden as we “wake-up” our bodies! Easy, fun, and child-friendly yoga poses will teach us how to focus on our breathing to help us relax and settle our busy minds in a busy world!

Cost to participate is $10 per Child and $5 per Adult for General Admission; $8 per Child and Free for Adults for HA Members and Volunteers; $5 per Child and Free for Adults for Family Circle Members.

50th Anniversary Lecture Series: Woodland Garden Design: Blending the Natural Habitat with Exotics

To celebrate Historic London Town and Gardens’ 50th Anniversary, this year’s lecture series will connect their past, present, and future. This month, Director of Horticulture, Meenal Harankhedkar, will present on one of London Town’s most remarkable features: its seamless combination of both native and exotic plant species. She will share design tips and ideas for creating your own beautiful oasis at home.

Cost to participate is $10 for non-members and  free for members. Includes admission. Limited spots are still available! All attendees must register in advance.

Through Ebony Eyes: Preserving the Legacy of Blacks on the Chesapeake

For over 200 years, Black men and women have kept the seafood and maritime industries alive on the Chesapeake Bay. Yet few history books have recognized their contributions. The Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation, created by Vince Leggett, has amassed a rich collection of artifacts, oral histories and over 40,000 photos documenting their experiences. On July 20, Leggett will share some of their stories. He will highlight voices from two of his books, Blacks of the Chesapeake: An Integral Part of Maritime History and The Chesapeake Bay Through Ebony Eyes. Join us for a celebration of the Black men and women who transformed—and were transformed by—life on the water. This event is free to attend.

Learning at London Town: Militia March

Are you ready to get wet?  Then it’s time to join London Town’s water gun militia.  Learn how to march and drill like colonial militia recruits, then put your new skills to the test in our giant water gun fight.

​Cost to participate is $8 for member children, grades 1 – 4 or $10 for non-member children, grades 1 – 4.Pre-registration is required due to limited availability.

Jane Austen Tour

  • Date: Wednesday, July 21
  • Time: 2:00 pm
  • Location: Hammond-Harwood House, 19 Maryland Ave, Annapolis
  • Host Organization: Hammond-Harwood House 

Take a tour of the Hammond-Harwood House that compares the customs and social graces of the Loockerman family, who lived in the Hammond-Harwood House in the early 19th century, with those of characters in Jane Austen novels.

Archaeology Tour of the Gresham Estate

  • Date: Wednesday, July 21, Thursday, July 22 & Friday, July 23
  • Time: 2:00 pm
  • Location: The Gresham Estate, 784 Central Avenue East, Edgewater
  • Host Organization: Historic London Town House and Gardens 

Discover the history of the Gresham Estate, London Town’s newest site. Located about 10 minutes from London Town, the Gresham Estate dates back to the late 17th century. Owners have included everyone from actual pirate William Cotter to Commodore Isaac Mayo (for whom the Mayo Peninsula is named) and more. Following your tour, you’ll have a chance to speak with the archaeologists and students from St. Mary’s College conducting the first ever archaeological investigation of the site. 

Pre-registration is required.  Cost to participate is $7 for Historic London Town members and $10 for non-members. Availability is limited!

Tides & Tunes Summer Concert

The Tides & Tunes Summer Concert Series offers 10 weeks of popular music–from rock to folk to blues–with the incomparable backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay. Concerts are free; however, donations are gratefully accepted. Food and spirits are available for purchase. Beverage sales support the Museum’s education program. Bring a chair or blanket. The July 22 concert features Dublin 5 (High-energy Irish Rock). Concerts are free; however, donations are gratefully accepted.

Stretch and Sketch

  • Date: Saturday, July 24
  • Time: 10:30 am
  • Location: Hammond-Harwood House, 19 Maryland Ave, Annapolis
  • Host Organization: Hammond-Harwood House 

In the first program of the Art and Wellness Series, Stretch and Sketch, you will view and discuss the rare watercolor depicting Harpers Ferry, choose an architectural feature to sketch (materials provided), and do a stretching session in the garden with breathing techniques to help promote good posture and relieve stress.

Angelique Karditzas will be guiding a gentle yoga flow, accessible for all-levels. The practice will be focused to help students tap into their creativity, and connect deeper with mind, body, and soul. Please dress comfortably, bring a mat if you have one, if not one will be provided, and any other props that you use to honor your practice. Cost to participate is free but please register in advance.

Architrex Walking Tour

  • Date: Sunday, July 25

  • Location: Tour departs from Market Space Park, 25 Market Space
  • Host Organization: Historic Annapolis

Explore 300 years of architecture in historic Annapolis, the museum without walls, with an architectural historian during this varied and informative walking tour. Highlights of the tour include the Shiplap House, the Paca House, Patrick Creagh House, Hammond Harwood House, and the Chase Lloyd House.

Cost to participate is $22 Adults; $10 Child (11 and under). Architrex Tours are presented in partnership with Watermark.
