This three-part program begins with a short presentation by HA Curator Robin Matty on the remarkable Faris-Shaw-Chisholm tall case clock held in Historic Annapolis’s collection. Created by three of Annapolis’s most well-known craftsman, this clock provides a glimpse into their detailed art.
Next, Steve Sieracki explores the history of the American tall case clock. Steve will discuss the evolution of the tall case clock from its humble beginnings in the 16th century, to its zenith in the 1920s, to its current state in 2021. Topics will include mechanical and stylistic changes through 400 years of history. Steve will also provide information on successful and unsuccessful variations in these clocks over time.
Following the lecture, watch a hands-on, live demonstration on the disassembly of a tall case clock for moving and setting up a tall case clock in its new home with HA Volunteer and Lecturer, Tony Zecca.
