Decolonizing Our Museums – SOLD OUT

Four Rivers Heritage Area’s Education Committee Presents a Half-Day Workshop:
Participants brainstorm ways to bring new perspectives to their museum exhibits and programming for visitors with diverse viewpoints

In this workshop, a panel of museum professionals, volunteers, and consultants will discuss ways museums can offer their visitors history from diverse viewpoints, before participants brainstorm ways to bring new perspectives to their museum exhibits and programming.

Speakers include:

Nastassia Parker has been a historical character interpreter and reenactor since age 9. More recently, she has served as a museum program consultant and portrayed famous and little-known figures of African American history, such as Ona Judge and Sally Hemings, in one-woman shows and museum programming.

Crystal “Cryz” Nkechehosi Proctor is Executive Producer of Piscataway public programming for Living the American Indian Experience and CEO of Conoy Creations, LLC, the premier Piscataway Conoy education, entertainment, and catering company. Her mother, Natalie Proctor, is Tribal Chairwoman of the Cedarville Band of Piscataway Indians Wild Turkey Clan.

Dr. Christopher Mielke has researched the history of enslaved people at the Hammond-Harwood House and developed a walking tour of Annapolis based on the history of LGBTQ people there. He has been a Visiting Assistant Professor at Al-Quds Bard College in East Jerusalem and is now an AFHA AmeriCorps Member at the Beverly Heritage Center in West Virginia.

Daniel J. Sieh is a living historian with over 8 years of experience working with living history museums, including Colonial Williamsburg and Claude Moore Colonial Farm. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree from American University.
