Decadent Dining: Imported Food & Drink in Early Annapolis

August 26, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Part of the Cathleen H. Far Lecture Series.

Free, online presentation by Joyce White, Food Historian and Hammond-Harwood House Trustee.

Join food historian Joyce White on a journey back in time to discover the exotic imports available to wealthy residents of 18th century Annapolis. This lecture takes participants on a virtual shopping spree through the streets of colonial Annapolis to discover the assorted spices, condiments, sugars, cheeses, teas, coffees, chocolate, spirits, wines, and beer, among many other items offered for sale.  This lecture coordinates with the current museum exhibition, Decadent Décor: Global Imports in an Early American Port City.

To enhance this experience, a limited number of tastings boxes with examples of several of these items such as tea, spices, and 18th c. style chocolate among other goods, will be available for purchase for $6 each. To obtain one of these tastings boxes, packed exclusively with shelf-stable items, please reserve in advance by calling 410-263-4683 by August 24th; the boxes can be picked up at the museum’s gift shop during open hours (12-5 pm, closed Tuesdays) starting August 18th.

All registrants will receive a link with the recording of the lecture.
