Join us for the webinar premiere of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Online Watershed Learning (OWL) program! Experience how CBF brings environmental education to life for students in our newly launched CBF OWL program.
It’s Rocktober and the rockfish are living it up in the Chesapeake Bay! Did you know they are always dressed for a good swim party? Their stripes and pointy fins are fashion with a purpose. A purpose with a distinct connection to surviving and thriving in our local waterways.
Join CBF’s Education department for an engaging CBF OWL program to explore fish adaptations in the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem—the good, the bad, and the ugly! See how different fish dress themselves up according to where they live, who they eat, and who preys upon them. Learn how to make observations about the placement, size, and shape of fish fins, eyes, and mouth and uncover the reasons behind their scale coloration and pattern. By the end of this webinar, attendees will not only know why rockfish fins are so sharp but will also learn more about the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams.
Presenters
Morgan Jones, Port Isobel West Manager and Educator
Morgan Jones has been an educator with CBF for over two years. For the majority of that time, she has been leading interactive environmental programs with students and teachers in the tidal waters around Port Isobel, which is located near Tangier, Virginia, in the middle of the Bay. In her free time, Morgan enjoys hiking, paddling, and crabbing throughout the watershed.
Kris Belessis, Philip Merrill Environmental Center Assistant Program Manager and Educator
Kris Belessis is the Philip Merrill Education Assistant Program Manager and Educator at CBF. In her time at CBF, she has connected hundreds of students to the Bay by paddling with them on Black Walnut Creek, teaching them how to seine for fish, and showing them how to be stewards for their local watershed. When Kris isn’t working, she enjoys gardening by day and bonfires by night.
Ochae Bynam, Potomac River Assistant Manager and Educator
A 2018 graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Ochae Bynum started working at CBF in early 2020. He enjoys sharing knowledge on how people can impact their environment and the Bay. When he is not in the field or teaching, he is traveling or cutting hair for friends and family.
