The Four Rivers Heritage Area has a wealth of African American stories. African Americans have lived in Annapolis for over three centuries. From the 1700s through today, one-third or more of the city of Annapolis’s population has been African American. Their lives are also documented and preserved in Anne Arundel County. Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture Announces $1 Million In Funding for Preservation Projects

The Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture (MCAAHC) announces $1 million in available funds for African American preservation projects. The goal of the African American Heritage Preservation Program (AAHPP) is to identify and preserve buildings, communities, and sites of historical and cultural importance to the African American experience in Maryland. Maryland has officially moved into Stage Two of COVID-19 Recovery, and so has Anne Arundel County! Our heritage sites are beginning to open to the public as well.
