Additional MSAC Emergency Grant Funding Available

As part of Governor Larry Hogan's Maryland Strong: Economic Recovery Initiative, an additional $3 million will be distributed by through the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) Emergency Grant Program. Created in March in response to the COVID-19 State of Emergency, Emergency Grants provide funding to arts organizations and artists for losses sustained because of programming, operations, and events that have been modified or cancelled. Commemorate Maryland Emancipation Day, November 1

November 1 is Maryland Emancipation Day. According to the 2013 Proclamation signed by Governor Martin O'Malley, this day commemorates the date of November 1, 1864, when Maryland adopted a new constitution that abolished slavery. Celebrate Maryland Emancipation Day in the Four Rivers Heritage Area with a wreath laying at the graveside of Smith Price, a freed slave who became prominent in the history of Annapolis, donating the land for the city’s first African-American church where Asbury United Methodist Church stands today. The Pathways Grant Program provides support for capacity-building projects at historical organizations throughout the state of Maryland. The goal is to build the long-term resiliency and efficacy of museums, historic sites, and other organizations that make up Maryland’s heritage community.
