Four Rivers cautions County Residents about “Dropbox” E-mail Hoax

warning-symbolFour Rivers hopes to caution County residents about an e-mail hoax that has hacked their e-mail system earlier this week. A “Hoax” message was sent out using Four Rivers’s information by the hackers that asks the recipient to click on a “Dropbox” link, which activates the hack on the recipient’s e-mail system. Four Rivers’ Executive Director Carol Benson says, “Our office received the same message, marked ‘Approval Document’, from a South County non-profit a few weeks ago, just prior to a big event, and we were fooled into thinking that we were being requested to approve the use of our logo in their materials. The invitation looks exactly like any legitimate ‘Dropbox’ communication, but be very cautious! If you receive a message like this, do not open it, be safe and check with the ‘sender’ to see if they really did send that communication.”

Four Rivers staff is working with their IT department to discover exactly what has happened, and in the meantime, their office e-mail address is disabled. During this time, please send messages to: [email protected].
